Poodle Grooming Tips – Tools Part 2
Tools
Dryer – if you can afford a K-9 Dryer, go for the K-9 III High Velocity dual motor dryer. You won’t regret it. It will reduce the time to dry and the effort. It is infinitely adjustable so you can use it for getting out major water just out of the bath all the way to finish drying with a brush.
If you aren’t grooming show dogs or long coats, you can get a single motor high velocity dryer like this one:
Stand Dryer – for straight drying you really need something hands free:
Grooming Table – I recommend an adjustable height table and for standard poodles at least 36″ long:
Nail trimmer – I prefer the guillotine style as do my dogs. This one has a quick finder and is super sharp.
Nail grinder – Choose a Dremel or equivalent tool based on low sound and vibration characteristics. And then get a Diamagroove from Whitman’s. It’s expensive but will last forever if you take care of it. I do have the cleaning kit for mine.
Clippers – there are so many options out there. If you ever want to shave a dog down, you will want corded clippers like the Andis Ultraedge and the 7F or 7FC and the 3-3/4FC blades, but for regular grooming of face, feet and fanny I use cordless. Artero XTron is nice and quiet with low vibration (if you don’t drop it) and for the toes, I use the Artero Divinity.
If I think of anything else, or anyone makes a suggestion, I will add more.
