Celebrating Growth: From the Start of Forest Lakes to Callista's Championship

The Journey Begins

In 2018, after almost a lifetime of ownership, I took my first steps into the world of breeding and showing Standard Poodles, founding Standard Poodles of Forest Lakes. With the guidance of my first mentor, Beth, I began my journey. Beth’s expertise helped me grasp the essentials of responsible breeding and introduced me to a network of passionate professionals. Through her, I met my second mentor, Myriah, who further shaped my understanding of the breed. Together, their guidance and support have been invaluable.

Over these past 6 years, I’ve delved deeply into the world of Standard Poodles. I’ve studied the breed standard extensively, explored the breed’s rich history, and educated myself on health conditions and the relationship between structure and movement. I’ve analyzed pedigrees and worked tirelessly to ensure each generation reflects health, soundness, and the best traits of this incredible breed.

Milestones

Today, I’m thrilled to celebrate a major milestone in my program: my fourth AKC champion! Callista, now officially Am CH U-GRCH Asha Over the Moon (@Forest Lakes) RACEN BCAT, earned her title in just a few weekends—a testament to her quality and the foundation laid by her lineage. I am so grateful her breeder, Asha Poodles, entrusted me with this spirited girl! Callista’s success is a reminder of the importance of good movement, something I always prioritize in my puppies. So far, this focus has served me well.

Being a Mentee and Mentoring Others

As I look back on how far we’ve come, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. This journey hasn’t been easy, but with Beth, Myriah, my Tribe+, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way, it’s been deeply rewarding. Standard Poodles of Forest Lakes is more than a name; it embodies years of study, dedication, and my love and passion for this extraordinary breed. I am both proud and grateful to mentor future ethical poodle handlers and breeders.
